Subscribed to this show now, I love it
Mom and daughter, so cute!
Umma to the rescue! Umma FTW!
As I set the oven and prepped the pans for broiling, I knew this needed to end harmoniously. I chatted about how Mom, Dad, and I all loved the taste of grilled meat the best, but that the point of the show was to make cooking easy, so the meat would go into the oven instead. Mom didnât argue, but she did add a little of her own soy sauce plus a few more splashes of Coke before adding the raw meat to the pan.
She washed her hands, then set aside some of the smaller bits of meat and lined them up in a row on the pan so theyâd be positioned near the oven door. In a matter-of-fact tone, she said, âThese little one cook faster. We can try soon!â
Soon couldnât come fast enough. After Mom lifted my inferior soy sauce to better see the color in the light and compared it to her Korean brand, I opened the oven and took out the smaller meat pieces. She was right; they cooked in half the time. The beef sizzled on the metal pan as the fragrant smell of umami and sesame oil filled the kitchen. My mouth watered as I transferred the cooked pieces to a plate and reinserted the pan into the oven.
Mom announced, âLet your appa try.â Off-screen, waiting in the wings, was my dad. More timid than my mom, he stood on the sidelines and gave a small wave, but didnât speak. Mom scooped up day-old rice from the pressure cooker and put it into a bowl. She added the meat on top and held it out. âCome try.â
Dad was away so often he probably had no clue what the heck was going on with all the blazing lights and the big kitchen mess. But he loved homemade food, so he walked into the kitchen and took the bowl from my mom. She twirled her finger. âCa-ma-ra-rul boh say yo.â Look at the camera, please.
Dadâs eyes widened as he turned to the webcam. He took the bowl from her hands and sniffed. After a pause, he announced, âSmell good!â
âTry!â Mom grabbed some chopsticks from the dish rack and bounced on the balls of her feet in anticipation.
I looked at the comments flying up the screen.
